This is a listing for one beautiful, small doily made of bobbin lace, featuring elegantly curved motifs. Crafted from natural linen threads, it originates from the 19th century, likely from Italy or Bruges, Belgium. The central six-petal flower resembles the Cantù lace technique, created by rolling and layering plain linen tape to form motifs. The bridges in the center space are adorned with picot lace on double bars, evoking the appearance of a cross, and exuding a serene, mystical beauty. The rim features loops, both inward and outward-curling, each with 14 petals. Inside each petal, star-like spider embroidery sparkles, creating a dazzling effect of numerous stars and light. The outer edge is finished with picot lace. The space between the center and the trim is a lattice pattern, which might also resemble sunflowers. The color is an ecru with a hint of pale grassy green, a natural sand beige, or a slightly darker ivory. The linen is light and crisp yet soft to the touch, with a smooth feel despite its crispness. Please excuse any minor errors in the amateur measurements of this handmade item: Diameter: 13.9-13.5 cm Weight: Approx. 1.8g It appears to be in beautiful condition with no noticeable scratches or stains. Please forgive any oversight of minor imperfections that do not affect its use. Cantù lace originated in the hilly, lake-filled region north of Milan. It is an intricate technique where fine linen threads are curved to form motifs. Using needles and hands, fine (bobbin-woven) tape is rolled and layered, manipulating curves and lines to create beautiful, symbolic natural motifs such as petals and wings. It also embodies the pursuit of infinity and the eternal, everlasting nature of beautiful forms, with a principle of no cuts or endings. The design is as symmetrical as possible, with regularity and balance, created with care to express wishes for peace, stability, and tranquility. Perfect for placing on a table, chest, or cabinet. It would also be lovely for displaying jewelry, small dolls, or objets d'art. We hope you enjoy using it! ✴ If purchased as a set with the slightly diamond-shaped lace shown in images 15 onwards (diameter 13.6-13 cm, weight 1.6g), there will be a discount of 400 yen.
